Abstract:

This paper describes the acceptance-based behavioural therapy of a 40 year old woman with a chronic low-back pain disorder (CLBP). The paper describes the specific ACT casusconceptualization and functional analysis, the use of metaphores, cognitive defusion, experiential techniques and therapy effects. Central aspects of the treatment were the historical context of the symptoms and experiential avoidance. As was hypothesized the results of the treatment were positive, even on the long term. The role of acceptance-based treatments for chronic pain disorders is discussed.
